  Cape Clear Wren 2013

The 2013 Wren on Cape Clear Island will certainly be remembered as the best of recent times. With a group of 20 divided between adults and children there was a great atmosphere which was helped by a surfeit of traditional straw costumes, even accounting for the bits that got blown away in the fierce winds that grew stronger as the day went on. The day will be remembered for many things , not least the hospitality enjoyed through the length and breath of the Island. However few will grudge a special mention to Pádraig Ó Ruairc's impressive horse & jockey costume, 'Martina', otherwise knows as the 'man-woman' and for the various party pieces from the younger members, fiddle, tin whistles, guitar, concertina and of course the 'rince ar an sean nós' ( dancing old style). As usual in recent years Debbie Stone provided a glorious mid day feast which greatly fortified the Big Wren for later in the day. Thanks to the generosity of Island folk over €300 was collected and this will be made up to €400 for presentation to our Local St Vincent de Paul Group.
