An Exciting New Art Project for the Cape

The autumn beckons and after anClay Plaster Art Cape Clear Island action packed summer it’s good to know that there will be some interesting activities still taking place on the Island. One of the most unusual and intriguing will be  clay and plaster workshops which are scheduled to take place over the weekend of 26th September and 2/3 October. Funded by Cork County Council Arts Office with practical support from Comharchumann Chléire Teo the project involves three artists, Angie Shanahan, Eileen Singleton and Jacqueline O’Driscoll who are seeking the widest possible participation from Islanders to create a series of plaster panels using favourite objects. ‘No experience necessary’, has been heard before but in this case it’s true, and to prove this a short demonstration will take place during Culture Night on Friday 18 September in Club Cléire. Invitation leaflets are being circulated with this month’s Eadrainn with the hope of high levels of participation that will ensure a legacy of interesting plaster tiles that will adorn a community/public space on the Island in the future. Photo shows the three artists with some explanatory panels on the process which are to be seen in the Craft Tourist Shop.
